Early production attempts of the P1800 started in 1957, Volvo hoped the Karmann group would take on building it but Volkwagen stepped in to prevent this from happening. Compare the lines of the 1800 to the one you’re thinking about and you can see why they were a bit protective. Volvo would eventually reach an agreement with Jensen Motors who needed to fill some production lines, and so the Swedish born P1800 first came to life partly in the U.K. as a 1961 model. Production would eventually move back to Sweden in 1963 and pick up the “S” designation, though not for the more typical “sport” or “special” denotation but rather for ‘Sverige’ (Sweden).
Over the next 10 years, the 1800 would go through a few more changes and lettered designations, and there was even a two-year run of station wagon (ES) version. In 1973, production of this iconic glassed-back sports-coupe-wagon ended for the 1800…with about 48000 examples hitting the roads. Lucky for us Volvo appreciated the nostalgic all-glass back-end and recreated it with the building of the C30 in 2007. The P1800 is arguably the sexiest Volvo ever made. Roger Moore said one of his all-time favorites was the 1800…we agree whole-heartedly. Unfortunately though for us, values on these are on the rise and we’re not sure where they will land.
Second Daily Auctions is proud to present this well sorted rust-free P1800S powered by an ample 1.8L single-carb 4-cylinder. Service history for this Volvo dates back to March 1967. More recent work includes new audio equipment, new carpet, new spark plugs and wires. The original owner’s manual will convey. This P1800S is being sold with a clean clear Oregon title. Shipping quotes are available upon request.
Outside the respray paint shows well in original red #46 (color plate stamped in engine bay). At some point, the front bumper was replaced with what appears to be a Jensen-style bull bar and changed out grill. The original wheels have been replaced with 8-spoke Panasports. All of the panel gaps appear to be consistent and normal. The light lenses show no signs of cracks or fading.
Inside this P1800, the interior presents very clean and quite original save the newly added Kenwood stereo. No stains, fading, or cracking are present. No smells are reported. The new carpet kit was installed just recently. The gauges are all clear. The seats, headliner and door upholstery have no apologies that can be seen or reported.

As with many of the cars we feature, proper valuing is difficult given the low production volume and the rarity of examples going to market, compounded by the wide-range of examples and conditions you may find. Currently expect to pay at least $14000 for a decent example, and well over $20000 for those in better condition. Hagerty valuations put concours level examples near $40,000.

Bidding on Second Daily is very simple. You may choose the style of bidding you prefer, either a Direct (exact) bid or Dynamic (proxy) bid which is the default. No they are not.
PROXY BIDDING HAS BEEN DISABLED FOR THIS AUCTION
Seriously, is this for real? This car is worth much more than the current bid with 4 hours left? Is there a deficiency that everyone sees or reads but me? Can’t believe someone would let this go at $2500?
Can someone tell me about this awesome volvo?
Hi Joan, certainly…what in addition to the written ad would you like to know? Any specifics?
I think Joan might like a ride in this 1800, after someone fixes the carb though.
By the way, this is an 1800S not a P1800, It cannot be both an S and a P, despite having P1800 style bumpers installed. Only the <1963 Jensen built cars were P1800.
Is this one wearing aftermarket stainless bumpers or chromed steel?
-x
Car runs fine. Technically your are right about this specific model being a “1800S” rather than a “P1800S”. I think P1800 more refers to the overall body style it self. The bumpers were already on it when we purchased it.
Hey Joan, I am the owner of this beautiful Volvo. Sorry for the such delayed response. I just now saw a notification in my messages. Any specific questions you have about it?
