Model History
By the late 1970’s, Land Rover and the world knew the end was near for the Series models. The first Land Rover 110 (or One Ten) rolled off the line in 1983, followed one year later by the 90 (Ninety). It was the successor to the popular Series run (I, II, III). The biggest change was roll-up windows versus sliding glass panels, and coil instead of leaf springs…so the bar was pretty low to begin with. In 1984, the Land Rover 90 (Ninety) was introduced to replace the old 2-door 88 Series 3. The wheelbase was actually 93 inches, but all of the improvements of the Rover 110 from the prior year were added to the new model, including a stronger frame, bigger windows and larger payload. Axles were located by radius arms and a Panhard rod up front and trailing links at the rear. It came in three flavors, a 2-door hardtop, softop, and pickup as you see here.
Car History
Second Daily is proud to present this 1984 resto-mod Land Rover 90 pickup truck, retro-fitted with a turbocharged and inter-cooled Isuzu diesel motor mated to an automatic transmission. New seats and carpeting have also been installed. The seller reports this 90 to be rust free, with only minor oxidation on the door skins and a rust free bulkhead. It was imported in 2011 and comes with a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.
Exterior
Outside the high gloss paint presents well. Some bubbling can be seen on the bottom of the doors and oxidation forming on the door hinges, very common on these trucks. The bulkhead looks clear of repairs or rot, some small surface rust can be seen along the upper edges near the window hinges. The seller reports there are no rot issues. The seller reports that he recently replaced the seals on the windshield, door windows, corner windows, vents and doors. A new windshield was also installed. New seals on the differential are being done this week. No rust could be seen around the cab drip ledges.
Modifications
Known modifications from original include a suspension lift, oversized offroad tires and wheels, snorkel intake, winch, light bar, protective headlight cages, custom tool boxes in the back, full sized spare, side steps, front bumper and grill covering, diamond plating on the wings, interior seating and the diesel/auto drive train conversion. This truck is reported to start and drive without issues.
Interior
The interior has been modified with with new snakeskin inlay adjustable seats and new carpeting throughout. Three-point safety belts are present, but if you’re looking for airbags you’ve come to the wrong auction. You also won’t find any buttons to raise or lower your windows, or any other power buttons for that matter. Your choices are, Hazards (on/off), Lights (on/off), and Heat (up/down). Your air conditioning is the aforementioned crank handle windows and flip-up dash vents. All the better quite honestly. No dash cracks can be seen and the 4-spoke steering wheel is proper to the ’84 Ninety.
Market Value
Market value is difficult with resto-mod vehicles. You first start with the base vehicle price in the market and float up or down depending on the modifications. This one started life as Land Rover 90 truck, and in mostly rust free condition, these right-hand drive rest of world examples sell from $25,000 to over $50,000 depending on condition. Once you factor in modifications, they are quite honestly what someone is willing to pay. The seller has placed a very competitive reserve on this 90 to encourage active bidding.
