If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last 5 years, you might be surprised to know that Land Rover stopped making the Defender last year.  We’re not really sure why automakers abandon their roots, why the need to make everything look like a RAV4 crossover, why the need to plaster the name “Range Rover” on every model lineup of things that clearly are not Range Rovers. But they do it.

The answer usually lies somewhere between “production costs” and “keeping up with safety standards”.  I’m also not sure why the required safety equipment can’t be wrapped around a Defender body, or atop a CJ frame, or neatly packed into an FJ80.  I’m not sure why the need for bulbous headlights and HIDs that must be ordered (and installed) from the dealer at the tune of $250/each rather than your trusty bug-eye Sylvania H6024 for only $20 is now commonly accepted.  But it is.  Luckily though by reading this, you’re already aware of the many alternatives available to you…so many that you may never have to smell that new car smell ever again.  Just maybe.

Production of the Defender as we know it ended in January 2016.  Land Rover commemorated this monumentally bad idea by producing the Heritage Edition, a limited run of the last Defenders ever made.  LR made 400 of these Heritage versions…all finished in Grasmere Green over cloth.  River House Mini is a specialty restoration shop in the Netherlands and they have created their own Heritage style Defender 110.  It was sourced from Spain, so the restoration began with a rust-free 1992 D110 with a 200Tdi diesel.  After 4 months of a full body off nuts and bolts restoration…they present this…

It’s a fully matching numbers truck, left-hand drive and complete with a Land Rover Heritage Certificate.  It is finished in Marine Blue, all of the leather-work is custom made in camel color and the headliner is done in black alcantara.  Rear seating are 4 individual jump seats. The factory air-conditioner has not been installed but can be for an extra $4000.

The truck is for sale now and legal for U.S. import in 2 months.  The US EPA 25-year rule is based on build month, not build year.  If you are interested, please contact us and we can help arrange for buying, international shipping, and customs import.  Asking price is $75,000 + shipping and customs (typically another $5k).  We are awaiting more pictures and will post those up as soon as they come in.
