Around 1986, Land Rover started an underground project code named “Project Jay” which was to be another off-road SUV in the Rover lineup. Sales for the Bronco, Wagoneer, Patrol, and Land Cruiser were taking off like Marty McFly in a DeLorean and our British friends in Solihull wanted a piece of that.
Introduced to the public as a 1989 model, the Discovery platform was borrowed from the more expensive Range Rover at the time and only initially available as a 3-door. The 5-door version would come to market a year later in 1990. This prompted Land Rover to change the One Ten and Ninety name to “Defender” to reduce confusion of the incoming little brother. The U.S. would wait 4 more years to see the Disco. This first generation ran through 1998 until the Discovery II was introduced. In 2004, DII production ended and for us Americans, so did the Discovery moniker. In reality, the LR3 is just the 3rd iteration of the Disco and same for the LR4. We have no idea what the new Discovery is or why it’s called such, so we’ll just leave that right here. We’re classic lovers, and have been saying for years that you really should start storing away nice examples of the Discovery. As the Range Rover Classic market has already exploded and prices well on the rise, the Disco is a not-so-well kept secret anymore.
Second Daily Auctions is proud to present this first generation (and first year NAS) 1994 Land Rover Discovery SE7, complete with records from new including the original window sticker. Power comes from a 3.9L V8 mated to an automatic transmission. The seller reports this Disco is absolutely rust free and pictures corroborate that statement. This one is the SE7 which denotes 7-passenger seating with the added jump seats in the rear (2+3+2). This one just received a new battery, fresh oil change and new fluids. It has a clean clear title and will ship from New York.
Outside the original Ardennes Green shows well with a few exceptions where the clear coat is coming loose. This is a common occurrence for these early trucks and is much better to see this than rust, which is much more typical. This Disco was a life-long Californian but was not kept near the coast, saving it from the rust. The wheels arches, door jambs, and door sills all look very clean and free of rust. All of the decals are intact, marker lights appear to be without cracks, as do the windows.
Recent maintenance includes an oil change, several new gaskets, a new alternator, new tires, and a recent coolant flush. There are no known accidents and all is believed to be original.
Inside this Discovery presents very well, the manual (YES! manual) seats show little wear and there is a small seam split on the passenger seat. The interior is not dry rotted and all appears very original and clean. Known issues include an intermittent ABS light and when this happens rear windows do not go down. One sunroof typically will not open. The headliner is beginning to sag in some places, the rear cargo door needs to be opened with a key and the passenger side lock does not activate from the key fob.
The market is finally starting to pay attention to the Discovery. It is as capable off road as any of its siblings and occupants can enjoy the same British luxury inside that we know from this brand. Some reliability concerns plagued the Rover lineup, but if you’ve read this far into the ad you are well aware of that, and you also know how much of it is overblown. You have to be willing to give a little bit to get a lot on these. The seller has set a very reasonable reserve and we are happy to provide shipping quotes if needed.
Seven passenger leather seating, off-road capabilities of a Defender, records since new…if someone doesn’t snatch this one up, it may find a home at Second Daily headquarters.
Second Daily is an online curated auction house for specialty vehicles like you see here. Auctions run 24/7 and are 100% online. A reserve price has been set, so you must meet the reserve price with your bid in order to win the auction. If your bid is below the reserve, you may continue to bid until you hit the reserve price. The estimated value of the vehicle will give you an estimated indication of where the reserve price sits.
You may choose the style of bidding you prefer, either a Direct (exact) bid or Dynamic (proxy) bid which is the default. If your proxy bid amount exceeds the reserve price, it will only bid to the reserve. It will increment up to your maximum if someone bids against you. More information can be found on our How it Works page.

Hello. I would like to know the reserve on this vehicle pls. TIA
Hi ben, we sent you an email
Why has this been relisted?
Hi. I hadn’t realized it had been re-listed (maybe that happened automatically?). My first time using this auction. It didn’t sell when I listed it initially as the reserve wasn’t met and I didn’t accept any of the offers that came my way. Please let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for your interest.
I would love to buy if we could achieved a mutually agreeable price.
Thanks for reaching out. My first time working with Second Daily but I believe that how this would be most efficient would be if you submitted your offer to Second Daily, they relay it me, as they did with the others. If we find a number that works, then the deal goes forward. I am traveling a lot for work in the next week so should we reach an agreement, please have a little flex with schedule. I am happy to coordinate inspection with mechanic if you are out of state.
This was an auto-relist due to Reserve not Being met. @JAM583, send us a note (support@seconddaily.com) if you’d like to make an offer, we can share that with the seller. Thanks
Would love to buy. What is the reserve?
Thank u. email sent
Videos of driving/shifting/running have been added to the ad
Just spent the morning shooting videos of Disco start-up, driving, exterior, interior, undercarriage, dash lights, etc. Viewer will get a better idea of clearcoat and overall condition. They should be posted soon. She’s a great truck.
This used to be my disco back in CA. I bought it from the mechanic who bought it from the original owner. The original owner lived in Livermore and owned a winery. My assumption was this was a car to take clients out in, as it was registered to the winery. These are all my photos from back in CA, so I can’t attest to how it looks now, but when I had it, it was a very nice driver quality example. Head gaskets were done in 2011 if I recall correctly. I also sold the car with basically the… Read more »
Thanks for posting, Jottati. You were a pleasure to deal with as a seller. I was able to get the front sunroof working intermittently for a while, and then it stopped so I left it alone. I’ve put less than 1k miles on it since I got it and has been garaged, so recycled the same pics although I sent sent several new ones along to Second Daily of the floorboards under carpet and the cargo area under carpet (common rust areas), should anyone want to see. Appreciate the comment and additional info. Yes HG’s were done 40k miles ago… Read more »
