The Camel Trophy event … a grueling annual event that covered over a thousand kilometers, designed to test the limits of off-road vehicles and their drivers. The first event was held in 1980, designed to be a unique combination of adventure, expedition and competition among multiple teams. Originally planned as a one-year one-off event, that first year saw German teams driving Jeeps along the Transamazonica Highway from Belem to Santarem in Brazil. It’s no secret that Land Rover would eventually take this event over and over the next 18 years, we would see races across South America, Australia, Madagascar, Siberia, the Amazon and more. The Camel Trophy would go down in history as the greatest off-road competition ever. It would also be responsible for the creation of some very limited and very modified trucks from the Land Rover Special Vehicles department…all in wonderful Sandglow yellow over Bahama Beige.
Second Daily is proud to present this very rare and genuine original 1995 Discovery 1 made specifically for the 1996 Camel Trophy event, certified by Land Rover (see image) and carries only 8300 miles since new (13,402 kms). This Discovery was the 1996 Dutch entry, in what some consider to be the last of the traditional format Camel Trophy events in Borneo, Kalimantan. Prior to each actual race, participants would qualify in the Selections, and this truck was used for that qualification process (video below). The truck has everything that it would have been fitted when it left the Land Rover Special Vehicles operation. USA buyers should note that this truck is not yet legal for import given it is a 1995 per the DOT restrictions (eligible for import in July 2019). It is currently located in Spain and storage could be arranged if needed at a cost of 175€/month for fully enclosed storage. It is eligible for Canadian import or anywhere else in the world per those country regulations.
Allow us to repeat that … this 8k mile Special Vehicle Camel Trophy Discovery is eligible for US import next summer in July 2019…that’s July of 2019.
Financial and shipping assistance is available. We also offer our Buying Assistance program to help facilitate the transaction between buyer and seller.
Outside the Disco shows as it would have in the qualifying events over 20 years ago. It has been sympathetically restored to repair some light body damage sustained in the qualifying Selections, so some of the paint is non-original. Prior to being sold last year, it spent nearly 10 years in storage, owing to it’s remarkable condition and low mileage.
The proper equipment is still present, including the Superwinch, lights, Safety Devices ladder and rack, and original sand ladders. Sandglow body color steelie wheels are fitted with BFG all terrain tires. Power comes from a 300 tdi turbo diesel mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. No rust is reported and none can be seen that would cause any pause. The underside presents very well, more pictures are shown in the gallery.
Inside the Disco presents very clean and tidy. The added internal Safety Devices roll cage can be seen, as can the original TerraTrip dash mounted rally computer, original side seat mounted lamp light and auxiliary switches where a radio would have been. The cloth seats are protected by canvas covers and the carpets are covered with rubber mats. Everything is said to be in working order. The odometer shows the little use this truck has seen, with only 13k kilometers ticked off since new.
The seller reports all is up to date. The engine bay shows very well, no rust can be seen on the wings or bulkhead (common rust areas). Great care has been take to preserve the heritage of this truck.
The market on these is simply an N of 1. You will not find another legitimate CT Disco on the market, certainly not one in this condition and mileage. This isn’t a 1 of a million Discoveries, or 1 in a 1000 manual Discoveries, or a knock off tribute truck. This is the real deal and put simply, these trucks rarely come up for sale and is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Recent sales are sparse to say the least, and given the recent resurgence in interest of manual Disco’s, but we fully expect this to close above $40,000.

Second Daily Staff
well bought @DPORTER110 … that was fun. Hoping to see this one stateside soon, where are you located (generally, curious if we’ll run into one another). I’m in the PA/WV area. Hope to see it out if you plan to drive it. Congrats.
please note that we have updated the storage option, the prior option was only partially covered. For fully enclosed storage in Valencia, the cost is 175 euros / month
As a reminder to everyone, this vehicle has a reserve price set. If you bid below the reserve, you can continue to bid “against yourself” to raise your bid. We also do things slightly different here (taken directly from our blog post today): Our bidding, as it relates to reserves, is different than others though. Unlike others, we protect the buyer’s best interest by preventing them from overpaying. For example, assume that we have a very nice no-rust low mileage manual Discovery (sounds good right?). Assume the reserve price is set at $15,000…and the current bid is $10,000. Now assume… Read more »
We have extended this auction +1 day to account for Assumption Day in Europe.
Nice rig. GLWTS!
I’ll be looking for storage in Spain 🙂
We have recently updated the ad to include storage options…the seller representative has agreed to offer storage at a rate of 105€ / month (will be needed for ~11 months). And for additional fees can have the truck transported to the storage location, as well as to port when ready.
