The 911 Turbo was originally intended to be a limited street legal production run that would allow Porsche to race the Group 4 Turbo RSR/Type 934. Porsche was required to build 400 street-legal 930s by 1975, and so in October of 1974 at the Paris Auto Show, the German automaker unveiled the 930 to the world. Street car production began in early 1975 but would delay until 1976 for the U.S. market. Demand exceeded expectation and Porsche sold the first 400 production 930s within just a few short months. Another 1,000 would sell one year later. And the rest is history.
Later in 1977, we would see the next generation 930 turbo, bringing with it a larger displacement, bigger horsepower, adjusted suspension and new air deflectors installed in front of the rear wheels. This generation would last until being replaced by the 964 in 1990. The 3.3L was re-purposed for the first couple of years in the 964, then would increase displacement to the 3.6L until production stopped in 1995. The 993 model would take over, and famously is the last Porsche model in the series to use the traditional air-cooled engine. This generation was the fastest mass production vehicle at the time of its launch, with a top speed of 180 mph and 0-60 times of just 4.3 seconds.
Fast forward to the turn of the century…the tech boon is now a boom and those kids that obsessed over the 930’s are now flush with cash to buy. The 993 halts production and the last air-cooled 911 is a thing of the past. Introducing, the 996 generation 911 turbo. Built from 2001-2005, this generation turned many Porsche loving 911 die-hards into die-hard haters. It was the first water-cooled variant that shook the 911 air-cooled world but is arguably the most undervalued supercar in the current market. The 996 turbo isn’t afflicted with the IMS bearing issue seen in the naturally aspirated engines. The 996tt (twin-turbo) engine is a Hanz Mezger (no “t” in Mezger) designed engineering piece of art. Short of a few things to watch out for like coolant pipes coming unglued or premature failure of the timing chain, it truly is unbelievably reliable.
Today we present to you this 6-speed manual 2001 911 turbo finished in Seal Grey metallic over Graphite Grey leather with only 29,900 miles since new. This 911 is reported to be in excellent mechanical shape. The ’01 turbo is the first year of the 996 generation turbos. This 911 luckily has the factory deleted front bumperettes (aka bumper warts). During its ownership primarily in St. Louis the vehicle was serviced regularly by Park Town Imports, a local Porsche dealer. All of the visits were documented on the CarFax which can be provided, as is an accident (airbags did not deploy) recorded in 2005. The vehicle will come with a freshly completed oil and filter service prior to delivery to the new owner. It presents all original, with the original spoiler, 18″ turbo twist wheels, and HVAC/radio setup remains unchanged. It ships from New Jersey with a clean clear title.
The clutch, brakes, tires, suspension, rear spoiler, and all other electronics are said to be in perfect working order. This 996 is well optioned, including the heated seats for those cold commutes to work.
Option list:
059-Delete Front Bumperettes
446-Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
586-Lumbar Support-Left Seat
680-Digital Sound Package

The original seal grey presents well in the photos. This is arguably one of the most desirable colors in the 996 line up. This turbo sits on its original suspension and retains the factory Porsche 18″ turbo twist wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. All but one of the center crest caps appear in good condition. Cross-drilled rotors are standard on these cars, and the original red calipers remain. The exhaust is original and unchanged, the hydraulic spoiler is reportedly working. We see no unusual gaps in panels. The seller reports a chip in the windshield is present.
The interior is very clean as you would expect from a low mileage 911 turbo. The leather shows no excessive wear, the original radio head unit is intact, as are all of the heat/air controls, storage area and switches. The original Porsche mats remain. There is wear on the driver side seat switch panel seen in the photos. The dash has a reported wrinkle/shrinkage in it as well. The doors show no wear on the inside and the original Bose speakers remain.
I’ve personally experienced both the 997 and the 996, and whereas the PDK 997tts is no doubt fast and more modern, the steering in comparison was dull…overall I felt as if I was simply along for the ride as the car does what it pleases. A few months ago I wrote “The 996 is raw, a driver, allows you to make mistakes but rewards you when you drive it properly…the smaller frame provides that feel of engagement.” There is great online support via Rennlist,Pelican Parts and Flat6 Innovations just to name a few.
Doug DeMuro brought attention to the value of the 996 in a Jalopnik article in 2014. The days of finding a low mileage turbo in the 30’s is as old as the article. The market bottomed out on these about 18 months ago, so on average, expect to pay $45k-$65k for a good one. So many of these were bought up in the trough of value and highly modified to the owner’s delight. We’re not saying you shouldn’t modify it, because you could and should to really enjoy the potential…we’re simply saying you have an original clean slate to work with and take peace of mind it hasn’t been touched.
The seller stands behind the quality and representation of this 911. If you would like a PPI completed, the seller is happy to help facilitate one with the local Porsche dealer. How many keys come with the car? Manuals? Any insight as to why the air filter “box” is discolored? Thanks.
3 keys, window sticker, and the manual does convey. I looked at my own 911 turbo box and see the similar slight fading, I can only guess that over time and heat causes it to fade. Will let the seller respond if they have more insight.
Several have inquired about the “PPI guarantee”…upon placing a bid that meets reserve, your credit card will be immediately charged the typical 5% auction fee. If you perform a post-PPI per the seller requirements, and you are not satisfied with the results, Second Daily will refund that 5% charge less any fees we may incur. Unfortunately we do not know exactly what / if any that charge will be (possibly 3% of the 5% but again, we can not be held to that as it is only an estimate).
How is the fit and finish on the damaged fender? Did damage extend into the hood?
How does the fit and finish appear on the damaged fender. Did damage extend into hood?
The fender appears it was completely replaced as there is no sign of repair, paint is very consistent through out. Paint work was done with high quality product and care as there is very little evidence anything occured
Do you have details on what was damaged/fixed in the accident?
Based on what we can see the left front fender was replaced.
