Summary
In 2006, Porsche dug back into the design roots bin of previous gen 911’s to introduce the 997 as a replacement for the controversial 996 predecessor. Most notable was the return to the rounded headlights. Early build 997’s (in 2005) had some carry over IMS issues from the 996. By 2007 this was remedied by using a larger and improved IMS which dropped the failure rate to less than 1% (sources vary). Even at that, the IMS was a bit overblown in internet land, but certainly something all non-turbo 911 owners should educate themselves about.
