If you’ve ever driven the I-85 corridor between Greenville, SC and Atlanta, GA, you’ve surely noticed the rather large French inspired castle sitting atop a 4,000 ac. winery. It’s the sort of place you imagine is common along the A61 as you meander through Bordeaux on your way to Marseille in southern France. You imagine there to be a well-dressed driver standing aside a 1937 Mercedes 540K, waiting patiently for the home owners as they sip their wine of choice and talk in brilliant accents.
It’s certainly not the place you would expect to actually find all of that in eastern Georgia. But it’s there. And starting today, all of the above will be present as the 2nd Annual Atlanta Concours d’Elegance kicks off at the beautiful Chateau Elan of Braselton, GA. This is a full two day event featuring automobiles from high interest driver level cars in an informal setting on Saturday (today), to the Concours d’Elegance featuring rare, museum quality automobiles from the first half of the twentieth century in a formal judged competition on Sunday.

Surrounding both days are a variety of automotive and lifestyle events to be enjoyed by both avid car collectors and enthusiasts and lifestyle spectators. There will be cars on display, tours of the winery, cars for sale, a ride and drive, and more.

We recently caught up with Bill Wallet, co-chairman and COO of the event, and he got us really excited about what all will be there. He says you can expect cars “from the beginning of the automobile age through the future” and guests will “experience some of the most beautiful classic collector and special interest automobiles and motorcycles ever designed.” A full schedule of events is posted here.

Bill, along with co-founder Harry Krix, are both themselves car enthusiasts. Harry, from a family of motorsports enthusiasts, both amateur and professional and Bill, an avid classic car collector, have put together an amazing two days. This year, famed motorsports announcer Bob Varsha is the Honoree. Last year, castle owner and automaker Dr. Don Panoz was the guest speaker. Oh, did we fail to mention the estate is owned by none other than the man behind Panoz cars himself? Well he his, and he knows how to throw a party. Second Daily will be there, so we hope you’ll come out and support this event as well and introduce yourself.
Best of all, they’re giving back to those in need. The Atlanta Concours d’Elegance is affiliated with Drive Toward a Cure, a non-profit focused on raising money and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease. Their Great Southern Adventure Tour began on September 27 in Asheville, North Carolina and ends in Braselton, Georgia just in time for the show.
